Support in School

Support in school comes in a variety of different forms depending on your child's needs. Below we are included an example of the type of support your child might receive to support them.

Adapted tasks and resources (eg. A child may have a sloping desk; or a child may have a ‘Now /Next’ board that breaks down teacher instructions into smaller steps)

Peer or emotional support (eg. ‘Circle of Friends’ is sometimes used to help children with ASD to understand social norms). This is often run by Mr Samuels

Adapted teaching delivery Known as ‘quality first teaching’, a teacher will look at the needs of the child and plan lessons that differentiate to ensure that a child can access the learning.

Intervention teacher or member of support staff to provide specific one-to –one support.  If an IEP requires specific learning tasks to be completed these will be done regularly on a 1-1 basis by a member of staff

Working in smaller groups. Some children – for a variety of reasons – may find it easier to access the curriculum and their learning through small group work – this is always guided by a member of staff

Adapted timetable. A child might need to be slowly integrated into full class teaching or may need times when we have to focus other areas of need like physical needs or speech and language and therefore the timetable will be adapted appropriately.

Working with outside agenciesThere may be times when your child has an assessment or an observation with an outside agency who are trying to help us support your child. At times the agency worker may plan a series of sessions in which they work with your child.

Specialist SEND 1-1 We have a number of staff  Mrs Arscott and Ms Gardne who have received additional training and will therefore support children with specific needs – speech and language, physical needs and social and emotional needs.
