Rights Respecting School

Saint Cuthbert's Primary School is becoming a rights respecting school! We are currently working towards the Bronze Award: Rights Committed. The Rights Respecting school award was set up by UNICEF to encourage schools to put the rights of the child at the heart of their ethos. A rights respecting school is a school that uses the rights set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We aim to equip our children with the knowledge they need to know their rights and understand them.

The four key aims of this is that:
Our children are healthier and happier
Our children feel safe
Our children have better relationships with others.
Our children become active and involved in school life and in the wider world.

The Rights of the Child.

The Rights Knights
One way of giving children a voice is by allowing them to be involved in how we teach, understand and use rights within our school and this is the job of our Rights Knights a subcommittee of our school council. They will be meeting regularly to see how our school is following each right set out in the UN Convention. They will also be promoting the rights within their classes and helping during whole school assemblies. Please see below our Rights Knights 2019-2020.
